UPP Manifesto
Civil & Politics
1. A full proportional representation system where people vote for party and elected candidates will be assigned to constituencies where support for it is highest. Parties need to cross a 10% threshold. Singapore has a small population which is not very diverse and can accommodate this system.
2. An upper house consisting of a mix non-party candidates from recognised non-government organisations and those elected by elected Members of Parliament.
3. More venues other than Hong Lim Park to be gazetted for protests, subject to police permit which should be more liberal in approval.
Economy
1. Focus on the development of and cooperation with China and democratic Asian countries like India, Japan and South Korea.
2. The government should not invest in businesses that creates a conflict of interest with services it rightfully should provide, like housing, transport and postal.
Education
1. Students should be assigned a project-based curriculum at a younger age, such as starting from Primary 3.
2. Lessons should be more dialogue based instead of one way teaching and students allowed to debate with teachers.
3. Create more faculties in unversities for music, singing, acting and specific sports.
Health
1. Explore reduction of medical costs by importing reliable but not top-class and branded equipment.
2. Doctors in hospitals should not be made to work longer than 10 hours per day for the safety of patients.
Housing
1. Loans should be provided that involves purchase for national housing without directing buyers to banks.
2. Rented flats should be catered by the government for middle-income for those who do not wish to be tied down by assets.
Labour
1. No union shall be affiliated to any political party.
2. A minimum wage imposed by the government but non-standardised and vary for different professions and jobs.
Law
1. Appointment of judges should be subject to an independent committee made up of Senior Counsels and law organisations.
2. Legislation should not be arbitrary or messy making sentencing difficult and outcome controversial. It should also not be "catch-all" merely to allow law-enforcers a free hand and easy time.
3. Unrealistic laws which are not possible to impose should be abolished as far as possible.
4. Death penalty should only be for certain grave offences and not be mandatory. For example, the penalty for drug offence is too harsh.
Transport
1. Public transport should not be profit-oriented but continual optimisation of sustainance and service.
2. Taxi companies should cater for drivers employed under a salary.
3. More highways should be built to ease traffic jams, as high as three to four levels which some countries like US have. COEs should be abolished after that.
